Vee’s Inspiration July 4, 2025
I woke up this morning and gave thanks to God for waking me up another day. After my morning meditation, I thought about the man I never knew personally but followed professionally, Kobe Bryant. I thought about his journey from a young determined kid who wanted to be “better than Mike” to a Man who, in my opinion, became better than Mike. Hold on for a sec, let's be clear, Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player to have laced them up so far. However, I would venture to think that initially, Kobe wanted to be better than Mike on the court, but eventually, I think he wanted to be better than Mike as a man. In that sense, I think he was successful. He was a committed husband and father. He was a mentor to so many other athletes after he retired, he was an award-winning author, a successful businessman, and an investor. But most importantly you hear how he quietly helped children and families who were in devastating conditions. His only ask was that they never mention him.
As a man, I only want my children and the next generation to be better than me not just with one thing, but with all things and I think my Dad and Mom and the village that raised me wanted the same. I salute Kobe for becoming a better version of Michael Jordan and I implore each of us to become a better version of our forefathers and foremothers.
Enjoy today and stay safe.
