They say it’s better to be lucky than good. I got lucky when I met my wife 35 years ago. As luck would have it, that event 35 years ago has been one of the best things that has happened to me. No, it has not been some dream-filled romance or a movie-like love story that makes you tear up. It has been a relationship that started as a friendship and remained that way for years. Through the years, we have seen much, and our relationship has gone through the ups and downs, the questions of whether we should stay or go, the pull of selfish wants opposed to cooperative needs. And yes, there were times when we were a breath away from calling it quits and walking away, but we stayed. We fought for the feelings we had when we first started this journey together. Has it been easy? Hell no. Has it been fun all the time? Hell no. Has it been glitz and glam? Hell no. Has it been worth it? Hell yeah. We aren't perfect, and our situation still has its friction points, but we both have grown because of those ups and downs and those friction points. There are a few things I always think about that gives me perspective.
Before we were married, she gave me her last $1500 so I could pay a bill I had to pay.
When I had to carry her downstairs one time because she was sick and could not walk
When we would get paid and only have $20 between us until our next paycheck
When She stayed up with me many nights while I suffered with crippling back pain and supported my journey back to good health.
I'd rather be lucky than good. Thank you, God, for making me lucky and blessing me with my wife. I am thankful.
Have a great Thursday.
