The Dash...
I feel truly blessed to be able to write this inspiration this morning. It's amazing how things can change in a moment and that final moment can complete the Dash between your birthdate and your death date. I had such a moment yesterday. My wife says I share too much. I say, if I'm gonna share, it's important to share the good and the bad.
I had a follow-up with my doctor just to go over some yearly physical results. Everything looked great. Long story short, she indicated I was in the low-risk quadrant for a heart attack and heart disease. That was all great news. Fast forward to 6:00 pm. I decided to try to switch out an outside GFI receptacle. GFI stands for Ground Fault Indicator. You have them near places where a receptacle may come in contact with water. Think of the receptacle in your bathroom next to your sink. So I had the grand idea to replace the one outside. Fast forward to me just about finished with the rewiring, me getting up and putting my hand on the outside box housing the receptacle. I got hit with a huge surge of electricity. Thankfully, My wife was outside on the deck. She heard me grunt, saw me stagger two or three steps, and then hit the ground. My entire right side was numb, I might have lost consciousness for a moment or two. My wife was about to call the paramedics, but I asked her not to, I came back conscious and said, call Wayne, our neighbor. Once I was conscious I was hurt, but I felt I would be ok and I asked them both not to call the paramedics. My wife was scared and still wanted to call the paramedics, but I assured her I was good and there was no need to make that call. Twenty minutes later I text my guy, Pedro, to see if he could come by the next day and look at the receptacle. My man, he was there in 10 min. He look at everything, and determined I had wired something backward, yeah I know🙄, but he also said I was lucky, I say blessed, he explained the circuit ran through two breakers. One of the breakers has a safety on it that triggers quickly. That's what saved me. These are 25amp breakers. He said it was likely I was hit with 240 volts. And I was lucky that I was a bigger guy, if I was smaller I would probably be in the hospital or dead. So of course, only because I was ok, he and my wife started to clown on me and threatened to take my tools away.
No cap, as I write this inspiration I still feel the impact the shock had on my right hand. I realize how close I came to something tragic and feel truly blessed to be able to write today's message
The contrast is glaring to me. Yesterday morning my Doctor said I was in very good shape and have a low risk of heart disease and of having a heart attack. That evening I was laying on my back on the ground in my backyard wondering if I was going to survive the next hour.
Take the time to tell the people in your life you care about them. The next moment is never guaranteed.
Lord, I'm thankful. I'm thankful yesterday was not the final moment of my Dash.
Have a great Friday!
Stay safe and Thank you!
