Vee’s Inspiration January 24, 2024
For the people who are new to the inspiration, last year was the year of Jordan. On the 23rd day of each month in the year 2023, I discussed how Michael Jordan had an impact on me. This year is the year of Kobe. On the 24th day of each month of the year 2024, I will discuss the impact Kobe Bryant has had on me.
This is the year of Kobe! The 24th day in the year of 2024. Some may not know Kobe Bryant, a former professional basketball player, who died in a tragic helicopter accident. In my opinion, Kobe was not the greatest basketball player, but he was a great basketball player. I consider him the greatest student of basketball. He was not the most gifted, but he was able to out-think and outwork all of his contemporaries. He is the perfect example of how great we can be just by working hard.
Real Talk, I remember exactly where I was when I found out he died. We were standing in the kitchen and my son told me. At first, I was in shock and then I cried. The only other sports figure that touched me like that was when Thurman Munson, catcher for the New York Yankees, died in a plane crash in 1979. I was 8 years old and I was at my Grandparent's house. I went into the bathroom and cried.
At the time of his death, Thurman was my favorite baseball player. And Kobe, though retired, was and is my all-around favorite sportsperson.
When I think of Kobe Bryant, the words that come to mind are relentless, unflappable, always learning, and always evolving. Imagine how great we can be if we have the same mindset.
I miss you, Kobe
