Functional fitness is the new fitness. The cool thing about this type of fitness is you can look good now and look good 20 years from now. I used to lift super heavy at the gym when I was younger. That was just feeding my ego and my inner insecurities. As I’ve gone through all types of injuries and health issues, I realize some of the errors of my youth. My now goal is to be functionally fit when I’m 80+ years old.
Here are a few things I’ve learned over the years:
Resistance training is a vital part of long-term fitness. Medium weight is perfect with the right exercises
Your eating habits matter. Practice the 6-1. 6-healthy meals / 1- whatever meal or 6-days of clean eating / 1 whatever eating day
Recovery matters - sleep/ stretching/low-impact cardio is as important as your training
Mental state - the most important and powerful muscle in the body is the brain. Take care of it.
