Almost three years ago my neighbor, DJ, was talking about his previous swimming glory days.  Of course, being the instigator I am, I started talking about my previous swimming days and how good a swimmer I was.  And how I was on the swim team before I was on the track team in high school.  And that I was certified as a lifeguard.  He just looked at me and chuckled.   And then I doubled down and said I’ll beat you in a swimming race.  He looked at me like I look at a person who says they are going to break me in the gym and he said, you don't want this smoke”  At that point I knew he was no joke.  People who know they are good at shit have a certain look.  He had that look, and as they say,  that was the moment I knew I messed up. We both have crazy schedules, so thank goodness we have not raced.

I know you are thinking, “Vecus what does this story have to do with anything?”  well I had to give the backstory so I could give DJ his flowers.

DJ was just named the 2024 Swimming Coach of the Year by the Atlanta Swim Association.  DJ, we are so proud of you!  Continue doing great things and mentoring young athletes to greatness.
