Vee’s Inspiration July 20, 2024
To my man Barry, I appreciate your call yesterday. Sometimes we as men forget that other men need support as well. We can be the world's greatest actors and pretenders. We act like nothing ever bothers us and we pretend when we are bothered, we are all good. Your phone call meant the world to me. Even though I was in a good head space, to have another strong man reach out just to say, “Thank you for being who you are and I respect what you have done for so many people” was powerful.
We as men, lose our way from time to time and allow the expectations of society to change who and what we are. I can't define who and what every man is or should be, but I can comment on what makes a man like me, better.
A small village of family and friends who support my efforts and appreciate the sacrifices that I make.
An external opportunity placed in front of m
The internal desire to be a better version of myself.
The obligation to help develop and mentor others.
A physical challenge.
The quiet and loud haters
Friends, male or female, that take the time to reach out and connect now and then
A person I trust that's going to shoot it to me straight, no cap, no BS.
A peaceful place where I can lay my head.
A career that allows me to help others.
A young lady called me Superman yesterday, I smile and say thank you. Sometimes I'm a great actor because I feel powerless. Sometimes I’m a great pretender because I feel defeated. And then there are times when I am Superman because I feel inspired and motivated by kind words or a not-so-random call.
Being a man is not about being the toughest or strongest. It’s not about making the most money in the household. It’s not about being a Male and therefore by default you are a man. It’s not about making others feel subservient to you. It’s not about being physically stronger. It’s not about some antiquated custom of being served by others at home.
What is being a Man about?
That's the question that I don't have the answer to. I believe each day I learn a little more about what goes into making a man. I believe we have always viewed men and women on the opposite end of this string we call life. I hope that as we become wiser, we learn to do the things that make us successful in our personal and professionally lives while helping others to do the same.
