Vee’s Inspiration January 21, 2024

You know there are times when you do something and afterward, you just shake your head and say, “I’m a freakin idiot”, a “complete knucklehead”, or “a fool”.  After you hear my story,  feel free to call me any of the three.  I’ve called myself all three many times since yesterday.

Check this out…

After finishing my speaking event on Friday,  I came home packed a bag, and headed to the airport.  I had to go to Dallas Forth Worth to have a face-to-face conversation with one of my Area Managers.  I get into Dallas at about 10:45 pm and get to the hotel around 11:45 pm. The temperature at that time was 30 degrees with some wind.  Smart Vecus brought his vest and his winter coat.  I wasn’t going to let this Texas winter weather catch me unprepared.  Fast forward to the next morning,  I get up, and if you can imagine, it's even colder, so I throw on my vest and my jacket get in the car, and head to work.  While driving I get super hot,  so I figure I'll just take off my jacket.  Yup,  stupid Vecus thinks it makes sense to take off his jacket while driving 75 miles per hour on a dark Texas 4-lane highway.  Guess what?  As I pull my jacket over my head,  it gets stuck.  So here I am, stupid Vecus, driving 75 miles per hour on a dark Texas 4-lane highway, with a jacket over my head and I can't see.  I pull on the jacket once, pull on it twice, pull on it three times and it's still stuck, mind you I’m driving blind and still going 75 miles per hour.  So now I panic a little,  I turn the wheel to the right, tap the break, and yank the jacket once again.  At the same moment, three things happen.  The car goes to the right, the jacket finally comes over my head and I can see and as I look at my side mirrors a truck flies by me on the left.   I was going 75 mph now I'm going 65 miles per hour.  fortunately, my right was clear so I kind of pulled over, but I couldn’t stop because I'm on a 4-lane highway in Texas, and if you know about some of Texas’ highways, they all don’t have shoulders.  I then realized how stupid my actions were and how close to death I came.   I called my wife and told her the story and kept saying how stupid I was.  Real Talk… I've had echoes of how those events could have played out in such a different way.  It’s written, “God watches over Children and Fools”.  I'm thankful for being a fool that was watched over yesterday.

I thought I'd share my example of a reasonably smart guy, me, doing something I’m now calling “innocently stupid”.  I'm just glad I'm able to write about it and share it with you today.

Look at God.

Stay safe and Have a Great Day!
