A message from my Dad to his great grandsons…
I understand life is tough and most times it’s not fair. I understand that as a black man, you are seen as less than by some. I understand that people who you think are your friends are something ten times worse, envious. I understand you don’t do certain important things because you’re not feeling well. I understand you want to have your cake and eat it too. I understand that you want all the beautiful things in the life.
I understand.
But son, here’s what you have to understand. Life is tough so that you may learn how to think through things opposed to reacting to everything.
Life is not fair? Fair is a man made word to create balance on one side of the scale, life creates balance across the entire scale.
Your a black man viewed as less than? Being seen as less than is a one sided argument that is only true only if you believe it.
But they were my friend! They weren’t a friend if they were envious, we sometimes assign definitions too freely.
Not feeling well? I compare this to our heart or our brain , what would happen if they stopped when they did not feel well?
You want cake? “Pigs get fat hogs get slaughtered”. You can’t always eat all your cake.
You just want all the beautiful things? Beauty can be ugly and ugly can be beautiful. “Having all the beautiful things in life can make life seem ugly.”-Vecus2024
Son, I hope this makes sense, I was told these same things in different words by my father many years ago. I’m sure you will use different words when you tell your sons…
