My wife says,” I share too much” but I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t.
I’m always up early, even on my off days, I get up at the same time between 2 & 4 am. This morning, my wife has a 6 am hair appointment, so I wake her up at 5 am to get ready. I even said I’ll take you and come back to get you. She said, “No, she knew I had to do some stuff with one of my daughters this morning so she would drive herself.” As she is about to leave she says, “I’m gonna need to stop for gas.” I look at her, and she then says, “I should be able to make it there”. I continue to look at her and say I’ll go gas you up. I pump her gas 95-99 percent of the time. Mind you, it’s 5:20 am. She says, “So you will ride with me and I’ll bring you back?” I’m like no I’ll drive my truck, gas you up and then you go. Then she tried to keep talking about how she can do it. I said “Anissia”. She kept talking about how she would handle it. I said “Anissia” She looked at me and got quiet. We went and got the gas, she then told me I didn’t have to follow her to get her “I have to have my coffee” on the way to the hair salon. I told her to be careful, kissed her, and came back home.
I joke about this because there was a time in our past when I would have fussed and cussed about her letting the gas tank get too low. I remember telling her how that can mess up these newer vehicles. I would fuss about her getting gas in the early morning because it’s not safe…even though as a hypocrite I would often do it, but that was ok because I’m a “dark alley” if need be. But that was all my ego and my male bravado. Back then she would still do it, but to avoid conflict, she just wouldn’t tell me about it. I smile as I think how far we have come in our communication game. You grow to understand that healthy communication is like a healthy body or mindset, you have to take care of it every day.
