Vee’s Inspiration September 8, 2023

Someone told me something yesterday that caused me to pause, reflect, and smile.   They said, “Your team enjoys working with and for you.”

As I thought about that statement and my journey of learning to manage people, situations, and systems, I smiled.

Real Talk,  upon reflection, I was a jerk to work with and for.  I used to think my way of interpreting and enforcing the rules was the only way to interpret and enforce the rules.  I used to think my way was the best and the only way to do things.  But Ah, the beauty of time and experience.  If you accept the teachings of experience, you learn there are many roads to success.  Some roads are direct and you get there unexpectedly fast, and other roads take a more circuitous route that takes a little longer and surprises you when you get there.   I’ve been fortunate,  my road has been a combination of the two.

In my management career,  I was fortunate and achieved early success.  As my career progressed,  two things happened,

  1.  The road to continued success became exponentially more challenging, and

2. My definition and understanding of success became more clearly defined and personal.

These two seemingly different roads toward success converged at the perfect time for me.  At that time, I stood at the crossroads of my life, vulnerable and unsure, but willing to receive, and ready to learn how to truly manage, develop, and help others become successful.

That seemingly simple statement yesterday meant the world to me.  I'm so thankful for being at the crossroads of my life at the right time in my life to accept the teachings of experience.

Have a great Friday!

Stay safe!
