These are not my words, but they spoke to me, so I share.  I hope they speak to you as well.

Embarrassment is the cost of entry but it should never stop you.

The feelings of starting something new are often not pleasant:

  • Feeling embarrassed in comparison to others.

  • Intense feelings of being overwhelmed.

  • Feeling like a failure.

  • Imposter syndrome.

But, just know, every single person will feel these things no matter their status, power or position.

Here are 3 key methods to start something new with unbreakable confidence:

1. Embrace the Beginner's Mindset

Here it is important to not focus on achievements. Instead, focus on growth and learning.

Know that:

  • Every expert was once a beginner

  • Mistakes are a natural part of learning

  • Curiosity is more important than perfection

Understanding that everyone has to start somewhere will be your driver to keep moving forward.

If it’s feeling overwhelming, take a deep breath and visualise where you will be later down the line. Remember comparing
your day one to someone’s 10 years is never going to feel good.

2. Surround Yourself with Support

Most feelings of embarrassment come from:

  • Fear of judgment

  • Lack of support

  • Self-doubt

Surround yourself with positive, encouraging people who believe in your potential. Their support will keep confidence high
and help you stay motivated.

3. Celebrate Small Wins

It’s a simple equation:

When we can see our progress, our confidence grows.

Focus on celebrating small achievements:

  • Set manageable goals and track your progress

  • Acknowledge each milestone, no matter how small

  • Reward yourself for your efforts

The collection of small wins can often add up. Meaning your confidence will build fast.

To get over the embarrassment of starting something new:

Remember:

1. Embrace the beginner's mindset

2. Surround yourself with support

3. Celebrate small wins

You don’t have to be great to start.

But you do have to start to be great!
